After speaking with the roofer who replaced our roof I was horrified to find out that he never measured our roof. While he came out to our house (like all of the other roofers and left his card in our door), he never measured our roof. Crazy. He next claimed that I told him how many “squares” it was going to take to roof my house (say what???). What’s incredible about this statement is that I didn’t even know what a “square” meant in the roofing world until all of this went down and I never told him anything about how many squares it was going to take. Oh yeah, and the quote he gave me didn’t even have the number of squares it was going to take to roof my house yet he claimed he told me 40 over the phone after he sent me my final invoice. Interesting. To make this more interesting, he told me that it took him 50 squares to finish our roof. Am I suppose to trust a guy that claimed it took him 50 squares to finish my roof after he didn’t measure my roof. I let him know that one of the roofers who did measure my roof said it would take 46 squares. I’ve sent a check to the roofer with the amount my wife and feel is fair and he has cashed the check and I hope this is it.
Quick Update
September 26, 2009Nails, Nails, and More Nails
September 26, 2009Just because the roofing company may claim that they’re going to “clean up” after they have completed their work doesn’t mean they’re going to pickup all the nails around your house. I just got through picking up most of the nails around my house (took my about 2 hours) with a magnet that built on to roller. I rented mine for $10 for the day. It’s amazing after I went over some spots 4 or 5 times that I would still keep finding nails. My guess is that I’ll be finding nails for about the next 20 years. Not fun, but better than your children or pets getting a nail in the foot.
Roofing Quotes in Savannah | Savannah Roofing
September 14, 2009If you’re going to get a quote for repairing/replacing your roof, make sure the quote is final (not an Estimate). I’m about to be in a battle with a local roofer who raised his price by 25% from his estimate after the job was completed on a 2,700 square foot home. I called two other roofers to ask them if they have every been off by 25% on a residential roof that they came out to measure and they said no. Maybe 5% but never 25%. Soon I’ll be posting my story with full details after I talk with my leagal team.
